乔治 W 布什当上总统以后，虽然他一直都在努力使自己说出的句子尽可能符合英语的语法规范，但总是无法避免一些基本的语法或逻辑错误。据说，布什在公开场合说出的蠢话，足以编成一本小册子。以下是美国媒体选出的布什经典蠢话前10名（所有这些均有录音或视频剪辑为证，由于网速慢，这里略去其链接，有兴趣可以自己google）：
第十) "Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream." —LaCrosse, Wis., Oct. 18, 2000
——“给翅膀插上梦想”（正确的应该是：where dreams take wings）。另外，句首复数形式的families用了单数的is，这在不太正规场合的口语中或许可以接受，但出现在总统竞选人的演讲中就不太适宜了。
第九) "I know how hard it is for you to put food on your family." —Greater Nashua, N.H., Jan. 27, 2000
——给家里人穿食（把食物披在家人身上？）
第八) "I hear there"s rumors on the Internets that we"re going to have a draft." —second presidential debate, St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 8, 2004
——泛称“互联网”时有固定说法：the Internet（有冠词the，这里只能用单数形式，书写时I要大写) ，由此，媒体推测布什从来没用过互联网，弄不清the Internet究竟是啥东东。很可能布什对英语语法里“数”这个概念一直就没有彻弄明白过，他在这方面犯的错巨多。
第七) "I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully." —Saginaw, Mich., Sept. 29, 2000
——我知道人类和鱼类可以和平共处
第六) "You work three jobs? … Uniquely American, isn"t it? I mean, that is fantastic that you"re doing that." —to a divorced mother of three, Omaha, Nebraska, Feb. 4, 2005
——你打三份工？...“它”真是无与伦比的美国人，不是吗？ 我的意思是，你那样做太不可思议了。（看来布什意识到错误，想给“它”找个借口）——另外，从上面最后的说明来看，估计是与布什对话的离婚妇女说，她自己一份工作养活三个小孩，而布什误以为她打三份工，因而闹出笑话。可惜我打不开音频剪辑，无法确认原对话是否真是这样。
第五) "Too many good docs are getting out of the business. Too many OB-GYNs aren"t able to practice their love with women all across this country." —Poplar Bluff, Mo., Sept. 6, 2004
——太多的妇产医生不能与全国的妇女进行爱的实践（寒！）。联系前一句，估计原意是想表达：由于太多医生停业了，不能对妇女们奉献关爱。（OB-GYN是Obstetrician-Gynecologist的缩写，产科医生-妇科医生）
第四) "They misunderestimated me." —Bentonville, Ark., Nov. 6, 2000
——“他们不正确地低估我”。misunderstand误解+underestimate低估，二合一，当真是前无古人，很有点儿韩乔生的“迅雷不及掩耳盗铃之势”。如果按构词规则， misunderestimated 可以理解为“错误地低估”，那意思低估还存在正确与不正确之分。
第三) "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?" —Florence, S.C., Jan. 11, 2000
——又是单复数问题，看来布什在这个语法问题上真的很头大。有人拿这句话跟布什开玩笑："Is our children learning?”，"Yes, Mr. President, we is.”
第二) "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." —Washington, D.C., Aug. 5, 2004
——敌人从来没有停止想方设法地伤害我们的国家和人民，我们也没有。 （NND，我一直就没弄清So do I 跟Neither do I 咋用，看来布什跟我一样惨！）
第一) "There"s an old saying in Tennessee — I know it"s in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can"t get fooled again." —Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 17, 2002
——这段话全部译出是这样的：“田纳西州有句古老的谚语——我知道是德克萨斯州，可能也包括田纳西州吧——是这样说的：愚弄我一次，可耻——可耻的是你，愚弄我——你就再不会被愚弄了。”（原谚语是：Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me一次受愚弄，羞在对方；再次受愚弄，羞在自己）。让人汗颜的是，布什担任总统前曾担任了六年德州州长！
这个帖子有点火星了，但从外语学习的角度来看，颇有启发性和娱乐性。
